Tottenham and Jose Mourinho were left frustrated on Saturday as the Premier League’s bottom-placed side Norwich managed to take a point from them at Carrow Road.
The Canaries took the lead through Mario Vrancic and thought they had doubled their tally when Teemu Pukki controlled superbly before rolling the ball home, although VAR harshly ruled his effort out for offside.
Daniel Farke’s side then conceded an equaliser after Christian Eriksen hit an excellent freekick into the top corner, although Serge Aurier’s own goal quickly gave Norwich their lead back – Harry Kane’s penalty meant both sides took a share of the spoils.
While, as aforesaid, Spurs may have left Norfolk feeling frustrated, they will presumably be excited about the performance of one Norwich player who has been strongly linked with a move to the north Londoners – Max Aarons.
What’s the word?
Well, Farke is reportedly resigned to departures as the England U21 international is being looked at by Tottenham, who have scouted the 19-year-old according to The Daily Mail.
Aarons has started 18 Premier League games for the Canaries this term, following a 2018/19 campaign in which he helped Norwich achieve promotion while also winning the EFL Young Player of the Season award.
How did he do?
Against his potential future employers, the teenager performed well.
Aarons recorded one interception, one block and made three clearances against Mourinho’s men, while also completing one dribble and drawing two fouls from the Spurs players.
The youngster’s pace and desire to almost always get to the byline and deliver a cross is a huge feature of his game, but that doesn’t result in his defensive numbers lacking as the aforementioned numbers prove.
Norwich’s No.2 also won one aerial duel on a day where Tottenham presumably would not have been put off by their transfer target’s performance.
Even more so, Aurier’s woeful showing in the same game – which received criticism from the Spurs fans on Twitter – emphasised the north Londoners’ need for a new right-back even more.
