Manchester United fans on Twitter have surprisingly advocated for the sale of David De Gea this summer as the goalkeeper stalls on a contract extension.
The Spanish international has one year left on his current deal, but United have baulked at De Gea’s £350,000 per week wage demands and would be willing to replace him with deputy Sergio Romero, according to The Daily Mail.
Meanwhile, according to The Sun, De Gea has flat out rejected United’s final contract offer with PSG ready to pounce as the French champions search for a Gianluigi Buffon replacement.
Despite question marks throughout the season over the on-going contract dispute, De Gea still started all 38 Premier League matches for United while Romero was reduced to just seven cup competition appearances.
Since arriving at Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid in 2011, De Gea has developed into one of the world’s premier shot-stoppers, earning PFA Team of the Year honours on five occasions as well as winning Manchester United Player of the Year four times.
However, the previously impenetrable ‘keeper struggled to shake off the rust of a sub-par 2018 World Cup, making a number of high-profile errors as United failed to earn Champions League qualification and many supporters think now is the right time to cash in.
Indeed, United fans on Twitter appear prepared to say goodbye to the world-class shot-stopper after the update on his contract situation…
