As reported by The Daily Record, Celtic and Rangers are spearheading a massive rise in attendances in the top-flight of Scottish football this season.
The paper have their hands on a report by finance experts Begbies Traynor that says attendances have risen a massive 49% compared to last season, aided by the arrival of Brendan Rodgers and the Ibrox side’s promotion into the Scottish Premiership.
That’s great news for the top-flight, given the majority of income at clubs across the country comes through the gates from paying fans.
There’s been a boost for lower league teams over the last few years too.
Speaking to The Daily Record, Begbies Traynor’s Ken Pattullo said:
The progress of Rangers through the lower leagues has helped smaller clubs to improve their finances too, with average gates temporarily swelling without the pressure to increase the wage bill that comes with promotion.
That’s not a fact gone unnoticed by Rangers supporters in recent years who, although often ridiculed by Celtic supporters, believe they haven’t received enough credit for helping out the whole of Scottish football over the last few years in terms of attendances and their presence in the lower leagues.
They’re also taking credit for the rise in attendances in the Scottish top-flight this year and took to Twitter to react to this latest report…
