Juventus have told Alex Sandro that he will need to submit a transfer request to have any hope of sealing a move to Chelsea, according to the London Evening Standard.
What’s the story?
The Premier League champions’ reported pursuit of the left-back has been well-documented in the media.
The Italian giants have slapped a £61m price tag on the Brazilian, but they are determined to keep hold of him.
The London Evening Standard claims that Juventus are prepared to stand firm, meaning that Sandro will have to force his way out with a transfer request.
It is believed that the 26-year-old has been offered a new contract worth £84,000 a week, but Chelsea are still confident of landing his signature with an offer of wages in excess of £100,000 a week.
How badly do Chelsea need a big name?
The Blues are a dominant feature in the transfer gossip pages, but they are yet to bring in anyone of real significance.
With all due respect to Willy Caballero, the goalkeeper’s free transfer from Manchester City has not quite got the fans jumping off the ceiling.
While there is no indication that manager Antonio Conte intends to walk away from Chelsea, The Guardian claimed last month that he is frustrated with the club’s lack of transfer activity.
If Juventus are digging their heels in with regards to Sandro, then that frustration will just intensify for Conte.
Chelsea are in need of a big-name signing to please the fans, and they could do with one in the coming days before the club embark on their pre-season tour.
