It’s no secret that Leeds want to sign a goalkeeper this month, but the Whites have seemingly changed their stance on what type of player they want to bring in.
Phil Hay has previously stated that Leeds want an experienced head to act as Illan Meslier’s backup if Kiko Casilla is banned, but now it seems as though the Whites are going to go for a younger option as they’re interested in Elia Caprile.
The Athletic’s Leeds United correspondent has said that the Italian is “seen as a good prospect,” but this arrival could spell the end of the line for another of United’s young talents.
Kamil Miazek’s chances of breaking into the United first-team were already slim, but if Caprile arrives it will be seemingly impossible.
The Pole is already 23 years old, and while that isn’t too old for a goalkeeper he’d want to be making senior appearances at this point of his career.
At the moment Miazek is already Leeds’ third choice behind Meslier and Casilla, but if Caprile steps through the door at Elland Road he’d slip even further down the pecking order.
Being a fourth choice goalkeeper is bad enough, but sitting behind two players that are younger than you would be incredibly disheartening. It only sends one message, Miazek will never be the main man at Elland Road.
Although he’s appeared on the bench at times this term, Meslier’s performance against Arsenal, making four saves, is unlikely to see Miazek surpass the Frenchman again.
The stopper may have to start looking at alternative options if he wants to forge out a successful career in professional football. At the moment, it would take a minor miracle for him to get a chance at his current club.
Meanwhile, fans of a Premier League club have been urging their team to sign one man at Leeds…
