Liverpool fans are on a high right now with news that Philippe Coutinho has signed a new contract to tie him to the Anfield outfit until 2022 and – if not end – suspend rumours surrounding him heading to Barcelona.
Many are already talking it up as the best deal Jurgen Klopp’s Reds could possibly have hoped for this month, but there remains just shy of a week of the transfer window remaining for the club to have a go at exceeding it, and reports from TuttoMercatoWeb have revealed that M’Baye Niang is wanted.

It’s alleged that the 22-year-old Frenchman is trying to force his way out of AC Milan before the deadline with his game time due to be cut following the arrival of Gerard Deulofeu from Everton and that his representatives have been talking to other clubs, with Liverpool supposedly among them.
It all sounds a bit tenuous, but maybe the Mersey men should be in for Niang. Ater all, he could be an ideal short-term replacement for Sadio Mane…
As out infographic shows, Niang may not be a prolific forward player, but he does offer the sort of direct running and willingness to attack Mane has been providing, with 20 successful take-ons and 35 shots in 18 appearances – five of which have been from the bench.
Klopp is not the sort of manager to do things with the immediate future his sole concern, but with Liverpool now ten points adrift of leaders Chelsea in the title race, more shaky displays could see a once-promising season soon erode. Signing Niang could halt that process.
